Kuwait- Nuclear Material Set For Export Seized

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Customs officers at Shuwaikh Port impounded equipment and metal materials used in nuclear and oil production ready for export to Iran, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The officers considered the action a crime against the nation, as well as unlawful and illegal transaction with another country. Details about the incident indicated that a Kuwaiti establishment registered a cargo for export of scrap metals, but the officers suspected content of the shipment.

They insisted on verification of the shipment, which later turned out to be equipment used to manufacture nuclear power and oil. They impounded it immediately and informed the concerned authority. The most surprising aspect of the issue is that such equipment and materials are only imported among governments of various countries.

The officers were perturbed as to how a private establishment acquired it and even planned to export it to another country. Investigation on the incident is ongoing. Meanwhile, Customs officers at Shuwaikh Port confiscated 36 tons of banned items such as betel leaves and banned cigarettes from two containers that arrived from Malaysia via a GCC country, reports Al-Shahed daily. The owner of the company that imported these items will be summoned for investigations.
