Woman killed as hurricane hits UK

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A woman was found dead beneath a fallen tree in London yesterday as the tail end of Hurricane Gonzalo brought high winds and travel disruption to Britain.

Police said they were called out to reports of a falling tree in the plush Kensington district and found a woman trapped underneath it. "She was pronounced dead at the scene," Scotland Yard said in a statement. "Enquiries continue to identify the deceased woman."

Wind and rain led to 110 flights being cancelled at London Heathrow Airport, the world's busiest international passenger air hub. British Airways said it had scrapped a number of flights and advised passengers to check their bookings online.

Hurricane Gonzalo caused widespread damage and a power blackout in Bermuda, the British Overseas Territory on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
