(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The police arrested a woman for allegedly possessing drugs while they were executing a court eviction order a court heard on thursday.
the chinese woman vendor 35 was arrested on january 28 with 169 grams of hashish in her possession. a small quantity of crystal meth (0.5 gram) was also seized from her.
she denied the charge of possession of drugs when she appeared in the court of first instance on thursday.
a policeman said that he was phoned around noon by another officer to come to a flat in the chinese cluster of international city.
“he told me that he found substances suspected to be drugs in the woman’s flat” the officer told the prosecution.
the two officers worked for a criminal investigation department section charged with following up on rent disputes.
“i walked into the flat later and saw the woman. there were lots of pipes a syringe and other suspicious stuff on a table” the officer said.
the other officer said that the flat was filled with thick smoke when he went there with a dubai municipality employee to carry out the court eviction order. “the procedures were to have a carpenter with us to break the locks if the tenant did not willingly open the door for us.”
the officer found the woman sleeping on the floor. the place was filled with suspicious smoke. “i called her in a bid to make her wake up. she became agitated and scared when she saw us. she tried to hide something in a sunglass cover under a table”.
the officer said tools used by drug users were found in her place but she claimed that the seized substances belonged to her friend.
she was later referred to the general narcotics department.
the court will give a verdict on june 16.
