Jordanian FM, British Official Discuss Syrian Refugees Issue


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh met on Monday with British Secretary of State for International Development Justine Greening and discussed cooperation between the two sides regarding the services offered to Syrian refugees in the Kingdom, Jordanian News Agency (Petra) reported. Judeh voiced appreciation for Britain's continued support to Jordan to assist the Syrian refugees, adding that Jordan was in need of aid to help it continue playing its humanitarian role towards more than 580,000 Syrian refugees. He also pointed to pressure being placed on the Kingdom's economy due to the continued influx of Syrian refugees. The British minister announced an additional donation of ?20 million to help the Syrian refugees. So far, British aid to Jordan to assist the refugees has reached ?87 million. Greening voiced her country's appreciation of the role Jordan has been playing under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to provide aid to the Syrian refugees. She also urged the international community to continue supporting Jordan to enable it to carry out its role towards the refugees.
