(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Current difficult challenges facing several Muslim states necessitate more cooperation and economic integration within the OIC framework, Prime Minister Nader Dahabi said Monday at the COMCEC Economic Summit.
Dahabi urged presidents and leaders of Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) member states, to adopt joint economic strategies that achieve more cooperation among the various Muslim countries.
The summit, which convened Monday, marks the 25th anniversary of the OIC Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC).
The prime minister conveyed His Majesty King Abdullah's greetings and best wishes for the success of the summit and emphasised the importance of laying down practical solutions to deal with the new economic situation created by the financial crisis.
Since joining the OIC in 1969, Jordan has been able to boost its economic and commercial ties with the various member states through signing all OIC agreements and statutes, Dahabi indicated.
He affirmed Jordan's continued efforts and contacts with international and regional parties to overcome obstacles hampering the launch of Palestinian Israeli negotiations to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.
On Saturday, Dahabi started a three-day visit to Turkey, during which he held talks with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on bilateral relations and regional developments.
To enhance cooperation, Jordan and Turkey decided to sign a free trade agreement and reciprocally cancel visa fees before the end of the year.
