(MENAFN) The Kremlin said Thursday that additional US sanctions targeting Russia could make efforts to reach a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict more difficult if they are put into effect.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the remarks after the US House of Representatives approved legislation on Wednesday that targets Russia’s economy and could impose substantial tariffs on countries that purchase Russian oil.

The measure has been sent to US President Donald Trump, whose signature is required for it to take effect.

During a briefing in Moscow, Peskov described the legislation’s approval as an “unfriendly action” and said Russian authorities were closely following its progress.

“Of course, the introduction of any additional sanctions by the US would definitely complicate efforts to find a peaceful settlement in Ukraine,” he said.
