Host Of Events Organised To Mark International Archives Week 2026
This celebration underscores the importance of documents and archives in preserving national memory, safeguarding rights, and promoting knowledge for future generations. International Archives Week is an international event highlighting the vital role of records and documents in protecting human memory and supporting justice and transparency. International Archives Day is observed annually on June 9.
As part of its participation in this event, the National Archives of Qatar, in co-operation with the Arab Museum of Modern Art (Mathaf), organised a workshop titled“The Importance of the Ottoman Archives in Documenting Qatar's History.” The workshop showcased a collection of historical documents preserved in the Ottoman archives, highlighting their importance as sources for documenting the history of the country and the Arabian Gulf region during various historical periods.
The workshop emphasised the scientific and historical value of the Ottoman documents and the information they contain, reflecting the political, social, and economic conditions of the region. It also introduced the
National Archives of Qatar's efforts in collecting, acquiring, preserving, and making historical documents available to researchers and those interested, thus contributing to the support of historical studies and the enhancement of national knowledge.
This event is part of a series of cultural and awareness programmes organised by the Archives to promote documentary culture and educate the community about the importance of archives and their role in building historical knowledge and strengthening national identity.
