Ukraine Marks Day Of Journalist

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The holiday was established on May 25, 1994, by a decree of then-President Leonid Kravchuk, following an initiative by delegates of the First All-Ukrainian Congress of Newspaper and Magazine Editors.

June 6 was chosen as the official date because on that day in 1992, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine was admitted to the International Federation of Journalists.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Oleksandr Syrskyi congratulated journalists on their professional holiday.

He said that in these difficult times, the work of journalists is of particular importance.

“You work where history is being made, to tell the truth about events on the front line and in the rear, about the heroism of Ukrainian soldiers, about the resilience of our people and the price Ukraine pays for its freedom and independence. In dangerous conditions, you document the crimes of Russian aggression, counter enemy propaganda, and help the world see the real picture of the war. For this purpose, many of you carry out editorial assignments directly in combat zones, risking your lives and health,” Syrskyi emphasized.

He expressed gratitude to media representatives for their professionalism, responsibility, and dedication.

“Special thanks go to military journalists and press officers who cover the work of the Armed Forces from within, ensuring effective communication between the military and society,” he added.

“Eternal memory to frontline correspondents and press officers who were killed by Russian aggressors,” Syrskyi stressed.
