GCC Chief Condemns Settler Incursions Into Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound
Amman, June 2 (Petra) -- Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi strongly condemned the continued incursions by extremist settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under the protection of Israeli forces and the raising of Israeli flags within its courtyards.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Al-Budaiwi said such provocative actions constitute a blatant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
He reaffirmed the GCC states' categorical rejection of all measures undertaken by Israeli forces aimed at altering the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic holy sites, warning that the continuation of such violations would fuel tensions and instability in the region and undermine prospects for peace.
Al-Budaiwi also reiterated the GCC's full solidarity with the Palestinian people and its steadfast support for their legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
