UN Urges Israel To Lift Movement Restrictions In West Bank Refugee Camps
New York, June 2 (Petra) -- The United Nations on Tuesday called on Israel to lift movement restrictions imposed on Palestinian refugee camps in the occupied West Bank, including policies that cause displacement, prolong it, or hinder access to essential services and livelihoods.
U.N. spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the organization was urging Israeli authorities to remove the restrictions affecting residents of the camps.
On Sunday, Israeli authorities extended a military order closing three refugee camps in Jenin and Tulkarm until the end of July.
According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), more than 33,000 Palestinians from these camps have been displaced and have not been permitted to return since the beginning of last year. The latest order extends their displacement by an additional two months.
