Putin Says Ukraine Escalates War After Starobilsk College Strike
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday that Ukraine’s leadership has escalated the conflict to a new level following a deadly strike on a college in Starobilsk, a city in the Luhansk region currently under Russian control, which reportedly killed 21 students on May 22.
During a Kremlin meeting dedicated to the incident, Putin said those responsible for the attack must face punishment and warned that accountability would be unavoidable.
On May 22, an attack on a student dormitory at Starobilsk College of Luhansk Pedagogical University reportedly left 21 people dead and 44 others injured.
Putin argued that the strike represented a deliberate targeting of young civilians and accused Kyiv of intensifying the war through such actions.
“It seems that by deliberately committing the most serious crime against children and teenagers, the Kyiv leadership has decided to write a new chapter in its history of crimes and give the conflict a new dimension. Well, that is their choice,” he said.
He also instructed Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan and Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin to provide updates on efforts to identify those responsible for the attack.
