China Urges End to Iran Conflict

(MENAFN) China declared on Friday that there was "no point in continuing" the Iran conflict as Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed his American counterpart Donald Trump on the concluding day of their summit in Beijing.

Responding to an inquiry regarding whether the two leaders addressed Iran and clarifying Beijing’s stance on the war, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated, "There is no point in continuing this conflict, which should not have happened in the first place."

The spokesperson emphasized that discovering a swift solution to the crisis would benefit not only the United States and Iran, but also nations across the region and the wider international community. According to the statement, "To find an early way to resolve the situation is in the interest of not only the US and Iran, but also regional countries and the rest of the world."

Highlighting the renewed opportunity for diplomacy, the spokesperson remarked that as the path for negotiations had now been reopened, "it should not be shut again." China additionally encouraged continued efforts to preserve progress toward easing tensions and to seek a political resolution through dialogue and consultation concerning the Iranian nuclear matter and other related issues.

The spokesperson further underlined the necessity of restoring maritime trade routes "as soon as possible to respond to the call of the international community and jointly keep the global supply chains stable and unimpeded."

Concluding the remarks, the spokesperson stressed the urgency of achieving lasting peace in the region, stating, "It is important to reach a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire as soon as possible, enable peace and stability to return to the Middle East and Gulf region at an early date, and lay the foundation for building a sustainable security architecture for the region."
