Mexico Opens Investigation into Officials Over Alleged Cia Collaboration
(MENAFN) According to reports, Mexico has launched an investigation into possible national security violations involving officials from the government of the state of Chihuahua, amid allegations linked to the presence of CIA personnel on Mexican territory.
The inquiry was announced Wednesday following the deaths of two US citizens in Chihuahua, which reportedly exposed a potential undisclosed arrangement between state authorities and foreign security agencies during operational activities. Authorities say such coordination would violate federal law, as state officials are not authorized to engage with foreign intelligence or security services without approval from the federal government.
Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office stated that it is examining whether Chihuahua officials exceeded their jurisdiction and whether constitutional provisions governing federal authority were breached.
The constitution prohibits state-level authorities from coordinating security or investigative work with foreign governments and imposes penalties on foreign agents operating without federal authorization.
Officials also noted that while interviews conducted as part of the investigation had been completed satisfactorily, seven individuals failed to appear for questioning, along with other state figures deemed relevant to the case.
