Hezbollah Reaffirms Stance Against Israeli Presence in Lebanon
(MENAFN) According to reports, Hezbollah’s Deputy Head of the Political Council Mahmoud Qomati stated on Wednesday that the group will not accept any continued Israeli presence on Lebanese territory, reiterating that Hezbollah considers the defense of Lebanon part of its core responsibility.
In remarks during an interview with a Doha-based television network, Qomati accused Israel of failing to comply with its commitments under the ceasefire agreement, arguing that ongoing military actions and alleged violations demonstrate a continued reliance on force and pressure.
He pointed to Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000, which he said occurred under pressure from armed resistance, and argued that such resistance has since played a decisive role in preventing lasting Israeli control or imposed conditions within Lebanese territory.
Qomati further stated that the resistance movement is not accountable for Israel’s presence near Lebanon’s borders, emphasizing that Hezbollah is acting to defend national sovereignty in the face of what he described as continued aggression.
The comments come at a time of increasing internal debate within Lebanon over Hezbollah’s armed role and future status, alongside ongoing tensions along the southern border and growing international calls for full implementation of ceasefire terms and post-conflict arrangements.
