Bret R. Shaw

Bret Shaw is a Communication Specialist for the Division of Extension and a Professor in the Department of Life Sciences Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He focuses on planning and evaluating strategic communication campaigns for a variety of issues related to local food systems and environmental conservation. He has conducted significant research programs related to promoting local food systems in Wisconsin and nationwide with a focus on supporting farmers market managers, Hmong farmers and Tribal growers. He has taught courses on social marketing, environmental communication and culturally responsive science communication. His current research interests focus on using industry communication and marketing tools to research how to improve the impact of Extension programming related to promoting natural resources conservation, sustainable agriculture and resilient local food systems.
