Zelensky On Ceasefire:“What Tomorrow Brings Depends On What We Hear Today”

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in matters of a potential ceasefire, Ukraine will“strictly mirror their actions.” He noted that Russian forces began the day with shelling on the frontline and assault activity.

He made the statement in a video address recorded on the Oleksandrivka front, according to Ukrinform.

“Many new threats are coming from Russia right now. Although we have taken an entirely logical and clear position for the Russians – we will strictly mirror their actions. Today, they began the day with shelling on the frontline, and there was assault activity. Drones are being used. Yesterday, they carried out even more air strikes. Our responses were in kind,” Zelensky said.

He stressed that“what tomorrow brings depends on what we hear today.”

As previously reported, on April 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, said Russia was ready to declare a ceasefire for May 9.

Later, Zelensky said Ukraine had not received any official signals from Russia regarding a halt in hostilities despite public statements on social media. Despite this, Kyiv declared a ceasefire regime starting May 6 and urged Moscow to move from rhetoric to real steps.

On May 6, Zelensky stated that by 10:00 Russian forces had committed 1,820 violations of the ceasefire, including shelling, assault attempts, airstrikes, and drone attacks, concluding that Russia had effectively disrupted the truce.

On May 7, Russia's Ministry of Defense announced a so-called ceasefire from midnight on May 8 to May 10.
