Azerbaijan Plans Aghband Customs Checkpoint On Border With Iran


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 29. The new Aghband customs checkpoint will soon be constructed on the border between Azerbaijan and Iran, Chairman of the State Customs Committee Shahin Baghirov said, Trend reports.

“Intensive construction work is underway. The work will be completed in the near future. Opportunities will also be created for pedestrian crossings,” the chairman said.

On September 21, 2022, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Aghband highway bridge was held on the state border with Iran in the East Zangezur economic region. The bridge, which will connect the 112-kilometer Horadiz - Jabrayil - Zangilan - Aghband highway with the highway network of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the Araz River, is designed to be 216 m long and 24.5 m wide. The bridge is designed to have 2 vehicle lanes and 1 pedestrian lane in each direction. It is also planned to construct a state border checkpoint that will be able to accept at least 1,000 freight vehicles (export, import and transit goods), with 500 entries and 500 exits per day in both countries.
