Israel Launches New Attacks in Lebanon Despite Ceasefire

(MENAFN) The Israeli military said on Monday that it has launched new strikes targeting what it described as Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa region and southern areas, in what is being reported as another breach of the temporary ceasefire.

No immediate details were available regarding casualties or the specific sites hit, according to reports.

The latest escalation followed reporting by an Israel’s public broadcaster, which said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security consultation to assess developments in Lebanon.

The strikes come amid an already severe humanitarian toll. Lebanese official figures cited by reports state that more than 2,500 people have been killed and over 1.6 million displaced since March 2 as a result of Israeli military actions across Lebanon.

A temporary 10-day ceasefire was declared between Israel and Lebanon on April 17, but it has been repeatedly violated, according to reports. The situation remains fragile despite diplomatic efforts to stabilize the truce.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said Lebanon and Israel had agreed to extend the ceasefire by three additional weeks following a second round of talks held in Washington.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah has carried out drone attacks targeting Israeli positions in southern Lebanon and northern Israel, saying the actions are in response to what it describes as repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement.
