Israeli Strikes Kill Four, Injure 51 in Southern Lebanon

(MENAFN) At least four people were killed and 51 others wounded Monday as Israeli airstrikes tore through multiple towns across southern Lebanon, the country's Health Ministry confirmed — the deadliest single-day toll since a fragile ceasefire was declared earlier this month.

The Ministry said a woman was among those killed, while the injured included three children and six women, underscoring the civilian toll of the strikes.

Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported that Israeli warplanes struck the town of Majdal Zoun in Tyre district, as the military simultaneously carried out demolition operations in Hanin and triggered a large-scale blast in Chihine. Further airstrikes hit the towns of Hadatha, Braachit, and Haris, NNA added.

The assault extended beyond airstrikes. The Alman-Ech Choumariye area in Nabatieh district endured intermittent artillery shelling, while a separate airstrike struck the corridor between Qana and Siddiqine, compounding an already dire situation on the ground.

According to official Lebanese figures, the cumulative cost of Israeli operations across Lebanon since March 2 has now reached more than 2,520 dead, over 7,800 wounded, and upward of 1.6 million displaced.

Ceasefire Under Severe Strain
The strikes come despite a ceasefire declared between Lebanon and Israel on April 17 — one that Tel Aviv has repeatedly violated, according to Lebanese officials. US President Donald Trump announced Thursday that both sides had agreed to extend the truce by three weeks following a second round of negotiations held in Washington.

Hezbollah has responded to what it describes as persistent Israeli violations by launching a series of drone attacks against Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon and northern Israel — raising fears that the already strained agreement could collapse entirely if hostilities continue to escalate.
