UK Royal Visit to US Moves Forward

(MENAFN) The UK’s ambassador to the United States has described the forthcoming royal visit as an attempt to “renew and revitalize a unique friendship” between the United Kingdom and the US, even as security worries in Washington have grown more pronounced.

Christian Turner stated that the four-day state trip by King Charles III and Queen Camilla is expected to proceed mostly as scheduled. His comments followed discussions on Sunday between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump, which addressed both diplomatic coordination and security considerations.

President Trump assured that King Charles would “be very safe” during the visit to the United States. His remarks came after recent heightened concern triggered by an incident involving a gunman at an event he attended in Washington, DC. In an interview with CBS 60 Minutes, Trump emphasized the security of the White House area, saying: “I think it’s great, he’ll be very safe… this area of not very many acres is really safe.”

The royal visit is set to commence later on Monday, with King Charles and Queen Camilla scheduled to be officially received by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. Meanwhile, security planning has become more urgent following a shooting on Saturday in which a Secret Service agent sustained minor injuries and President Trump was briefly evacuated to safety.
