French MP Urges Sanctions on Netanyahu Over Middle East War

(MENAFN) French National Assembly member Mathilde Panot of France Unbowed has called for sanctions against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, arguing that the international response to global conflicts has been inconsistent, according to reports.

Speaking in an interview with Franceinfo, Panot said: “Sanction against Netanyahu, as it is absurd to see that there have been 19 rounds of sanctions against Putin,” referring to punitive measures linked to the war in Ukraine.

She added: “You have a world and an international community that are allowing Trump and Netanyahu to drag the entire world into a war which, I recall, is an illegal war,” and questioned what role France and other countries are playing in addressing the situation.

Panot also urged France to take a more active diplomatic stance within international institutions, suggesting that negotiations should be conducted through the United Nations rather than outside what she described as the framework of international law.

“France, for example, should propose that these negotiations take place within the United Nations, rather than outside international law under the rule of the strongest,” she said.

She further called for the formation of a coordinated position among countries opposing the conflict, pointing to Spain as an example of a nation rejecting the war. “France should build a front of refusal with other countries, such as Spain, which is saying no to this illegal war,” she added.
