Jordan Cabinet Approves Amrah City Incentives
(MENAFN) Jordan’s Cabinet has approved a series of economic and social measures, including incentives for a major development project and a significant increase in student financial support.
During a session chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, ministers endorsed a package of exemptions and incentives for the Jordanian Company for Developing Cities, Facilities and Priority Projects. The measures are aimed at accelerating the first phase of the Amrah City development, which includes key projects such as a major stadium, an international exhibition and convention centre, and a large sports complex.
Officials said the move is intended to speed up implementation and create a more attractive investment environment.
In a separate decision, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Student Support Fund bylaw for 2026, increasing its total allocation to JD40 million. The expanded funding is expected to benefit around 60,000 students.
Under the updated system, each district will receive 550 scholarships and loans, divided between undergraduate and diploma students. Half of the total funding will be distributed evenly across districts, while the remaining portion will be allocated based on demand and population size.
The Cabinet also approved the release of approximately JD15 million to 72 industrial companies, covering previously accumulated export support payments from 2019 to 2021.
According to the plan, companies with larger outstanding amounts exceeding JD500,000 will receive government-backed financing to be repaid in instalments, while smaller beneficiaries will receive direct payments through the Ministry of Finance.
Additionally, ministers endorsed amendments to the administrative framework of the Income and Sales Tax Department. The changes are designed to modernise tax administration, including the establishment of specialised units for data analysis, risk management, and electronic auditing, as part of broader efforts to enhance efficiency and support digital transformation.
Overall, the decisions reflect a combined focus on economic development, social support, and institutional reform.
