China Condemns US Sanctions on Domestic Firms

(MENAFN) China on Monday denounced sanctions imposed by the United States on Chinese enterprises, labeling the actions as “illicit” and pledging to defend the rights and interests of its corporations.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of China, Lin Jian, stated in Beijing that “China always opposes unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law,” reinforcing the country’s longstanding stance against such measures.

Earlier, the United States Department of the Treasury revealed a fresh set of sanctions connected to Iran. Alongside this, it granted a general license permitting the gradual termination of transactions involving Hengli Petrochemical (Dalian) Refinery Co.

According to remarks from State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, these actions form part of wider initiatives aimed at restricting what Washington characterizes as Iran’s illicit oil trade.

These statements followed the Treasury’s decision to penalize a significant independent Chinese refinery—commonly known as “teapot” refineries, which mainly function in the eastern Shandong province—along with nearly 40 other entities.

Responding to the developments, Lin emphasized that “China urges the US to abandon the wrong practice of abusive sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction.”

He further affirmed that China “will firmly safeguard the lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies.”
