Two Dead, Several Wounded as Twin Tornadoes Rip Through North Texas
(MENAFN) At least two people have lost their lives after a violent storm system tore through North Texas on Saturday night, with officials confirming multiple tornado touchdowns across two counties and leaving scores of families homeless in the aftermath.
The National Weather Service verified that at least two separate tornadoes made contact with the ground as the storm system bore down on Wise and Parker counties, carving a path of structural destruction through residential neighborhoods.
In Wise County's Runaway Bay area, one fatality was recorded, with several residents sustaining injuries and no fewer than 20 families forced to abandon their storm-ravaged homes, CBS News reported Sunday. The damage was described as widespread, with multiple neighborhoods bearing visible structural impact.
A second death occurred in adjacent Parker County, where powerful rear flank downdraft winds struck a community located south of Springtown, authorities confirmed.
The Parker County Sheriff's Office disclosed that a woman contacted 911 on Saturday evening after discovering a family member buried beneath storm debris at a residence on Hutchenson Hill Road. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and pronounced dead a 69-year-old woman, whose identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities have not yet released a full damage assessment as emergency crews continue to comb through affected areas. Dozens of displaced families are expected to require temporary shelter as recovery operations get underway across both counties.
