Russia, China Signal Deeper Army Cooperation After Defense Talks
(MENAFN) Russia’s defense minister Andrey Belousov has expressed confidence that discussions with his Chinese counterpart Dong Jun will help outline the next phase of strategic cooperation between the two countries.
During talks held in Moscow, Belousov noted that this year marks both the 30th anniversary of the Russia–China strategic partnership and the 25th anniversary of their 2001 Treaty of Friendship, according to a statement from Russia’s Defense Ministry.
He described military cooperation between the two sides as increasingly important in what he called a “constantly changing military-political situation,” framing it as a key factor in both regional and global security dynamics.
Belousov said he expects the talks to help “compare positions and determine further steps within the framework of strategic cooperation between the two countries,” according to the statement.
On the Chinese side, Defense Minister Dong Jun stated that relations between China and Russia are “always developing on the right track and at a high level” under the leadership of both presidents.
He also emphasized that this year carries particular significance for bilateral defense ties and pointed to upcoming high-level engagements. Dong said he is prepared to “seize every opportunity to strengthen strategic interaction and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in order to give a powerful impetus to the high-quality development of Chinese-Russian relations,” in line with agreements between the two leaders.
According to reports, Dong’s visit to Moscow is part of a broader six-day regional trip that also includes Kyrgyzstan, where he is expected to attend a Shanghai Cooperation Organization defense ministers’ meeting in Bishkek.
