Iran's Araghchi to Visit Pakistan After Oman Trip
(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is conducting an intensive diplomatic sprint across the region, with stops in Oman and Pakistan — and Moscow next — as Tehran scrambles to broker an end to its war with the United States, Iran's state news agency reported, citing the Foreign Ministry.
"It is reported that part of the foreign minister's delegation returned to Tehran after talks in Islamabad to seek guidance on issues related to ending the war and is expected to rejoin Araghchi in Islamabad on Sunday night," the news agency said.
Heading a formal diplomatic delegation, Araghchi touched down in Muscat, the Omani capital, on Saturday evening, where he was received Sunday by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. The two held discussions on the deteriorating regional landscape, with mediation efforts to halt the US–Iran conflict at the center of their agenda.
The Muscat leg of the tour came on the heels of a visit to Pakistan, where Araghchi held talks with senior officials in Islamabad exploring the possibility of a second round of direct negotiations with Washington.
An initial round of US–Iran talks, convened in Islamabad a fortnight ago, ended without a breakthrough or any binding agreement to cease hostilities.
Those negotiations had been made possible by a ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8 — a truce that US President Donald Trump subsequently agreed to extend — offering a fragile but critical opening for diplomacy to take hold.
