Afghanistan Calls on Stranded Citizens in Qatar to Return Home
(MENAFN) The government of Afghanistan has urged its citizens who are currently stuck in Qatar while awaiting US visa processing to return home, stating that the country is stable and open to all nationals, according to official statements.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi said that Afghan citizens who had been waiting for resettlement travel to the United States have reportedly been advised to either return to Afghanistan or pursue relocation options in third countries.
He emphasized that Afghanistan is the common homeland of all its people and encouraged those affected to come back without concern, stating that there is no requirement for citizens to remain abroad due to security-related pressures.
The statement also noted that individuals seeking to move elsewhere could do so through formal and lawful procedures when opportunities become available.
Authorities further expressed readiness to cooperate with other states through bilateral consular agreements in order to protect the rights of Afghan nationals living abroad.
Since the return of Taliban rule in 2021, many Afghans have been awaiting relocation processing in various transit countries, including Qatar and Pakistan, as part of ongoing efforts to secure resettlement pathways, particularly to the United States.
