Seven Dead in RSF Drone Strike on Sudan's El Obeid
(MENAFN) A drone assault carried out by Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed seven people and wounded 22 others in the city of El Obeid in North Kordofan, the Sudan Doctors Network announced Saturday.
The network stated that the strike involved "suicide drones" that hit residential zones in North Kordofan, inflicting civilian casualties across densely populated neighborhoods.
In its statement, the Sudan Doctors Network condemned "the deliberate targeting of densely populated neighborhoods," charging that the assault was designed to cause "the highest possible number of civilian casualties rather than achieving military objectives."
The network further characterized the strike as a "grave violation" of international humanitarian law and established norms, warning that repeated attacks of this nature signal a profound disregard for civilian life — particularly amid the country's rapidly deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions.
The Sudan Doctors Network held RSF leadership fully accountable for the assault, calling on the international community and humanitarian organizations to exert pressure on the group to cease such operations and ensure the protection of civilians. It also urged relevant authorities to urgently reinforce health facilities in El Obeid with medical supplies and additional personnel to manage the growing influx of casualties.
The RSF did not issue any response to the allegations.
Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, when a power struggle between the national army and the RSF over the terms of military integration erupted into full-scale war. The fighting has since claimed tens of thousands of lives, uprooted approximately 13 million people, and driven parts of the country to the brink of famine — cementing the crisis as one of the most severe humanitarian emergencies in the world today.
