Sri Lanka Introduces Accessible Low-Floor Bus For Persons With Disabilities
Dhaka: Sri Lanka has rolled out a new low-floor bus service designed specifically for people with disabilities from April 21. The service operates from the Makumbura Multimodal Center, according to the country's Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development.
The initiative is part of the government's“Clean Sri Lanka” program, which focuses on improving inclusivity, ensuring equal access, and upholding the dignity of all citizens. Around USD 1.36 million has been allocated for the project.
In its initial phase, 10 modern, air-conditioned buses have been introduced. These vehicles are specially built with low floors to make boarding easier, particularly for wheelchair users and others with mobility challenges.
