Lina Przhedetsky

Lina is an interdisciplinary researcher specialising in emerging technology policy. She is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Melbourne Law School, and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society. Her research areas include the regulation of artificial intelligence and automated decision-making, the intersection of AI and the environment, and the use of AI in digital advertising.
Her PhD research, undertaken through UTS Law, focuses on the use of AI in the rental housing market. In particular, her research looks at the use of AI to process rental applicants' data to determine their suitability. She is particularly interested in how these technologies can be used to facilitate or compromise access to essential services such as housing.
Before returning to academia, Lina worked as a policymaker and has extensive professional experience in government, advocacy, and consumer affairs. She is passionate about developing meaningful, high-impact research that directly contributes to Australia's policy landscape. Her research into housing and technology has informed government reform processes, and she currently sits on the NSW Rental Commissioner's Industry Reference Group.
She is a Research Fellow at the Gradient Institute, and most recently held the role of Associate Professor at the Human Technology Institute. She is also a Board Director at the Tenants' Union NSW, and previously served as the Executive Director of the Consumers' Federation of Australia.
Lina's work has been featured extensively in Australian media, including on the ABC, The Guardian, The Saturday Paper, SBS, The Financial Review, and more.
