Schumer Calls for FBI Director Kash Patel to Resign Over Conduct Claims

(MENAFN) US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has called for FBI Director Kash Patel to resign, arguing that ongoing concerns about his conduct are damaging public confidence in the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Speaking on the Senate floor on Wednesday, Schumer said the controversy surrounding Patel has become a distraction from the agency’s core responsibilities and is weakening trust in its leadership.

He stated that continued uncertainty over Patel’s behavior and professional fitness is undermining the credibility of one of the country’s most important law enforcement institutions and insisted that new leadership is needed.

Patel recently filed a defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic, seeking damages over claims related to alleged personal misconduct. He has publicly rejected the allegations, calling them false during remarks to reporters, and emphasized that legal action was being pursued in response.

In his Senate remarks, Schumer argued that the FBI requires stable and disciplined leadership, particularly during a period of heightened national and international security challenges.

He added that the current situation is causing unnecessary distraction and insisted that Patel should step aside from the role.
