China’s Xi Urges Ceasefire, Uninterrupted Shipping in Strait of Hormuz
(MENAFN) According to reports, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for a comprehensive ceasefire and the uninterrupted movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran.
As stated by reports, Xi made the remarks during a phone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, emphasizing the importance of ensuring stability in the key maritime route.
He said that free and safe passage through the strait serves the shared interests of regional states as well as the wider international community, according to state media.
According to reports, Xi also reiterated China’s support for regional cooperation focused on development, security, and peaceful coexistence, urging countries in the Middle East to manage their own affairs and pursue long-term stability.
He further called for an immediate and broad ceasefire, stating that all efforts aimed at restoring peace should be supported, with disputes resolved through diplomatic and political channels.
As stated by reports, Xi also expressed China’s willingness to strengthen strategic trust and expand practical cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
Reports note that this was the first known contact between the Chinese president and a Middle Eastern leader since the escalation of the US-Iran conflict earlier this year.
