Spain, Mexico, Brazil Urge Washington to Engage in 'Respectful Dialogue'

(MENAFN) Spain, Mexico, and Brazil have jointly urged the United States to pursue a more open and respectful diplomatic approach toward Cuba, as stated by reports.

The three governments expressed concern over what they described as a deepening humanitarian crisis affecting the Cuban population. They called for immediate steps to ease living conditions and reduce hardship on the island, while warning against measures that could further deteriorate the situation or violate international law.

They also announced support for coordinated humanitarian efforts aimed at addressing urgent needs and alleviating suffering, emphasizing the importance of maintaining international legal standards, including respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful dispute resolution under the framework of the United Nations Charter.

The statement underscored a call for renewed diplomacy, urging dialogue that complies with international law and reinforces multilateral cooperation. The countries stressed that any long-term solution should allow Cubans to determine their own future freely and without external pressure.

According to reports, Cuba has been experiencing a prolonged economic crisis marked by shortages of fuel, electricity disruptions, and limited access to essential goods such as food and medicine. Cuban authorities attribute much of the situation to long-standing U.S. sanctions, while American officials point to internal economic structural challenges as the primary cause.
