N. Korea Conducts Missile Launches Toward East Sea

(MENAFN) North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles on Sunday in the direction of the East Sea, according to reports from South Korean and Japanese authorities.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missiles were detected early in the morning, launched from the Sinpho area and traveling approximately 140 kilometers before landing in the sea. The launch is described as part of an ongoing pattern of missile activity this year.

Military officials in South Korea said they are monitoring developments closely in coordination with the United States and maintaining readiness to respond to any further provocations. Intelligence-sharing was also carried out with Japan, according to reports.

Japan’s Defense Ministry stated that the missiles did not appear to land within its exclusive economic zone, and no damage or casualties were reported.

Authorities in South Korea condemned the launches, stating that they violate United Nations Security Council resolutions and called for an immediate halt to such tests.

According to reports, this was the seventh missile launch attributed to North Korea in 2026 and the fourth during the month of April, indicating continued escalation in regional military activity.
