Israeli soldier killed, others injured in Lebanon

(MENAFN) An Israeli reserve soldier was killed and nine others injured in southern Lebanon, according to statements from the Israeli military, as reports indicate continued fighting despite an ongoing ceasefire arrangement.

The soldier, identified as Master Sgt. Lidor Porat, 31, died during what the army described as an incident in the area. Among the wounded, one is reported to be in serious condition.

The military casualty raises the number of Israeli soldiers killed since early March to 15, following an escalation of operations in the region.

A temporary 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon reportedly came into effect earlier this week, following announcements of an agreement facilitated in part by international diplomacy efforts involving the United States.

Despite the truce, Israeli forces have continued operations in southern Lebanon, with authorities stating they are targeting Hezbollah positions, according to reports.

Israeli leadership has also indicated that while the ceasefire is in place, military presence will remain in certain occupied areas in southern Lebanon, raising questions about the durability of the agreement.
