Trump says US-Iran talks are progressing

(MENAFN) Donald Trump said the United States is holding what he described as productive discussions with Iran, stating that negotiations are moving in a positive direction, according to remarks made from the White House.

Trump said the dialogue with Iran is “working out very well,” while also using confrontational language about past decades of relations. He claimed the US has taken a stronger stance compared to previous administrations and suggested that the situation reflects significant pressure on Iran’s leadership structure.

Despite his comments about pressure and strategy, he said discussions with Tehran are ongoing. “We’re talking to them,” he said, adding that more updates could come soon, according to reports.

Trump also avoided questions related to broader regional tensions, including the conflict involving Iran and the strategic situation around the Strait of Hormuz.

The remarks come amid continued volatility following months of hostilities that escalated after military strikes involving the United States and Israel. According to reports, Iran responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israeli territory and US-linked military sites in the region.

A ceasefire was later brokered with mediation efforts involving Pakistan in early April, temporarily halting direct exchanges of fire, although diplomatic tensions remain.

In addition to foreign policy remarks, Trump also announced an executive order aimed at accelerating regulatory review processes for certain psychedelic-based treatments, particularly those already designated as breakthrough therapies, according to reports.
