(MENAFN- Gulf Times) His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, at the Amiri Diwan.

During the meeting, regional and international developments were reviewed, particularly developments in the Middle East region, most notably the situation in the Gaza Strip and the sisterly Republic of Lebanon, in light of the ongoing escalation and its humanitarian and security repercussions.

The two sides also discussed the repercussions of this escalation on regional security, particularly on the security of international navigation and the stability of global energy markets, stressing the importance of maintaining the smooth flow of energy supplies and enhancing security and stability in vital maritime routes.

The two sides also discussed ways to enhance the strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and the European Union, emphasizing the role of the State of Qatar as a reliable partner in supporting global energy security, including the supply of liquefied natural gas to international markets.

The two sides also discussed prospects for expanding cooperation between them, particularly in the energy, trade and investment sectors, in order to enhance common interests.
