NCC Launches Cyber Security Programme For Cadets
The two-phase initiative aims to create a pool of trained NCC Cyber Cadets who can contribute to spreading cyber awareness, promoting safe digital practices, and supporting cyber security initiatives at the grassroots level, the Defence Ministry official said in a statement.
An Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the comprehensive Cyber Security Capacity Building Programme was signed between NCC and NIELIT in the presence of NCC Director General (DG), Lieutenant General Virendra Vats and NIELIT DG, Madan Mohan Tripathi.
The cyber security programme will be implemented in two stages.
The first stage will be named 'Cyber Security Awareness Programme'. It will be a 15-hour online training module to provide foundational knowledge of digital literacy, safe internet practices, cyber hygiene, and awareness of cyber threats.
This stage will be open to all enrolled NCC cadets across the country and will be delivered through the NIELIT Digital University platform, the statement said.
The second stage will be named 'Cyber Defender Programme'. It will offer an intensive 60-hour offline training designed for selected cadets who qualify through a merit-based screening process.
"This stage will focus on hands-on training, real-life simulations, and practical exposure to cyber security tools and techniques, enabling cadets to identify and respond to cyber threats effectively," the statement said.
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the youth wing of the armed forces.
Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and drill.
Officers and cadets have no liability for active military service once they complete their course.
"In 2025, as many as 15.58 lakh cadets were enrolled in NCC. Of these, 6.33 lakh or 40.68 per cent were girls," official data said.
