Iran Rejects US Claims of Warships Crossing Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) According to reports, Iranian military authorities have denied assertions that US naval vessels entered the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, dismissing claims that two American destroyers had passed through the strategic waterway as part of a mine-clearing operation.

Reports citing official statements say a spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters rejected remarks attributed to the commander of US Central Command regarding the alleged movement of US ships into the strait. The spokesperson emphasized that “the initiative in the transit and passage of any vessel lies in the hands of the armed forces.”

In separate statements, the naval branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it maintains “full control and smart management” over the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered a critical maritime passage for global energy transport.

According to reports, Iranian officials also clarified that passage through the strait is permitted only for nonmilitary vessels under specific regulations and conditions.

The statements further denied that any US warships had crossed the waterway and warned that any attempt by military vessels to do so would be met with “firmness and full resolve,” according to the same reports.
