Vance Heads To Pakistan For US-Iran Talks, Seeks 'Positive' Outcome

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) JD Vance has departed Washington for Pakistan to take part in high-level talks with Iran, as diplomatic efforts intensify to ease escalating tensions between the two countries.

According to Reuters, the talks will focus on direct bilateral engagement, with both sides seeking to stabilize relations after weeks of military escalation, political disputes and heightened regional uncertainty.

Ahead of his departure, Vance said the United States is pursuing“positive” and constructive negotiations, but cautioned that Washington would not tolerate any attempts by Tehran to delay, deflect or mislead during discussions.

US officials added that the vice president is expected to meet with key diplomatic and security figures involved in the negotiations, aiming to coordinate positions and build momentum for meaningful progress.

The talks come at a critical moment, as tensions between Washington and Tehran have surged in recent weeks, driven by disputes over regional security, military actions and broader geopolitical rivalries.

Pakistan is hosting the talks as part of its growing diplomatic role in the region, following its recent efforts to mediate a temporary ceasefire and reduce the risk of further escalation.

Key issues expected to dominate the agenda include Iran's nuclear programme, sanctions relief and maritime security, particularly the stability of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route.

Meanwhile, the outcome of these talks could significantly influence regional stability, determining whether current diplomatic efforts lead to sustained de-escalation or renewed confrontation in the coming weeks.
