Uber Eats Expands Services To Nuwara Eliya City
Known for its cool climate, colonial charm and tea estates, Nuwara Eliya experiences a significant influx of local and international tourists, particularly during the April holiday season. However, limited evening food availability has traditionally been a challenge, with many outlets closing early. The introduction of Uber Eats addresses this gap by extending access to meals into late hours, allowing customers to order even after restaurants close.
The platform enables users to discover and order from a growing selection of local restaurants and global brands including KFC, Pizza Hut and Domino's. Special temperature-controlled insulated delivery bags have also been introduced in Nuwara Eliya to ensure meals are delivered hot despite the colder climate.
The service is expected to support the local economy by helping restaurants reach a wider customer base while also creating flexible earning opportunities for delivery partners, particularly during peak tourism periods.
Uber Sri Lanka Country Manager – Delivery, Varun Wijewardane, said Nuwara Eliya is one of the country's most popular destinations and the expansion will enhance convenience for customers while supporting local businesses and generating income opportunities for the community. He added that the move is part of Uber Eats' broader expansion across Sri Lanka.
The launch in Nuwara Eliya follows recent expansion across multiple districts including Hikkaduwa, Chilaw, Jaffna, Matara, Weligama, Mirissa, Anuradhapura and others, further strengthening Uber Eats' nationwide presence.
