Ministry For Development Working On Supplying Kyiv With Additional Cogeneration Units

According to Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba, a final meeting of the headquarters for eliminating the consequences of the emergency situation in Kyiv's energy system was held.

“We are working on decentralizing generation and meeting Kyiv's needs for cogeneration units, generators, and heat-generating equipment of various capacities. Within the EmPower project, two cogeneration units with a total capacity of 3.8 MW have been delivered. We are also currently considering the possibility of supplying additional units of this equipment with a total electrical capacity of 4.6 MW in the near future,” Kuleba noted.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) confirmed the implementation of the city's requests for cogeneration units: part of the equipment has already been purchased and delivered, while the rest is expected by the end of April.

The transfer of gas piston units from Switzerland and the use of equipment previously received from international partners are also being considered.

With the support of international partners, Kyiv has already received 652 diesel generators with a total capacity of about 27 MW.

Participants of the meeting reviewed the implementation status of the Comprehensive Resilience Plan for the city of Kyiv. Based on previous meetings, specific tasks have been identified – from approving technical solutions to developing work schedules and improving procurement procedures.

A separate focus is placed on developing engineering protection for critical infrastructure facilities, replacing thermal generation capacity, and ensuring the uninterrupted operation of water and heat supply systems.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the heating season for residential buildings in the capital has now been fully completed. However, heating continues for some social and cultural facilities – schools, hospitals, and kindergartens – amounting to about 55%.

“Full focus is on preparing for the next winter. Therefore, all tasks within the resilience plan must be completed without delays and with full awareness of personal responsibility for every step,” Kuleba emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine has changed the coordination format to effectively prepare for the next heating season.
