France Supplies Thirty-Nine Armored Vehicles to Lebanese Military
(MENAFN) France has delivered 39 armored personnel carriers to the Lebanese Armed Forces, fulfilling commitments made earlier by French officials, according to reports.
The delivery “aims to guarantee Lebanon’s territorial integrity, the protection of civilians, regardless of their faith, and the preservation of state institutions,” said French Deputy Defense Minister Alice Rufo during a handover ceremony at Beirut’s port on Tuesday.
The armored vehicles, known as VABs, are intended to improve troop mobility and enable operations in high-risk areas. Each can transport roughly 10 fully equipped soldiers and features welded steel plating to protect against small-arms fire and shrapnel.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed France’s support for Lebanon’s military, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the country’s “territorial integrity” and its civilians while announcing the continued delivery of armored vehicles.
The Lebanese deployment comes amid ongoing tensions in the region. Israel has carried out airstrikes and a ground offensive in southern Lebanon following a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2.
The escalation follows a broader US-Israeli military campaign on Iran, which began on February 28 and has resulted in over 1,340 deaths. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as US military positions in Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations.
