Iran Confirms Death Of Revolutionary Guards Navy Chief Tangsiri

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Iran's Revolutionary Guards have confirmed the death of Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the force's naval arm, days after Israel announced that it had targeted him in a strike, marking another high-profile loss for Tehran's military leadership.

In a statement released on Monday, the Guards said Tangsiri died from the severity of his injuries. Reuters reported that the confirmation came four days after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said Tangsiri had been killed in an Israeli operation.

Israel had earlier described Tangsiri as a central figure in Iran's naval operations and accused him of playing a direct role in actions linked to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most sensitive oil shipping routes. His death is likely to be seen as both a military and symbolic blow for Iran.

Tangsiri had led the Guards' navy since 2018 and was known for his hardline rhetoric and central role in Iran's maritime posture in the Gulf. He was one of the most visible commanders tied to Tehran's strategy of using naval pressure, fast boats and chokepoint threats to deter its rivals.

His death comes as Israel continues a wider campaign of targeting senior Iranian commanders, security officials and strategic infrastructure during the current war. Analysts say the killings are designed not only to weaken battlefield command, but also to disrupt Iran's ability to project deterrence across the region.

The loss is especially significant because the Guards' navy has played a key role in the confrontation over Hormuz, where shipping disruptions and military threats have already shaken global energy markets. Any weakening of that command structure could affect both Iran's military signaling and its leverage at sea.

At the same time, Iran has tried to project continuity despite the deaths of multiple senior officials in recent weeks, emphasizing that its military chain of command remains functional. Still, the repeated targeting of high-ranking figures has added to pressure on Tehran at a particularly volatile moment.

Meanwhile, Tangsiri's confirmed death underscores how the war is increasingly focused on leadership decapitation and strategic deterrence, not just conventional battlefield targets. It also signals that Iran's naval command is now firmly within the center of the conflict.
