(MENAFN) Lebanon's Health Ministry reported Saturday that Israeli strikes have claimed 1,189 lives since March 2, with 47 additional deaths recorded in a single 24-hour window — underscoring the relentless pace of an offensive that shows no signs of abating.

The ministry's latest figures place the total number of wounded at 3,427, with the toll bearing a devastating human cost: 124 children and 86 women are among those killed, according to an official statement.

The bloodshed follows an Israeli military campaign that has combined aerial bombardment with a ground offensive in southern Lebanon, launched after Hezbollah carried out a cross-border attack on March 2, drawing one of the most forceful Israeli military responses the region has witnessed in years.

The offensive forms part of a dramatically widening regional conflagration ignited by joint U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran beginning Feb. 28 — an assault that left more than 1,340 people dead, among them then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
