Dos: Building Permits In Jordan Up By 19.6% In January

Amman, Mar. 28 (Petra) – The Department of Statistics (DoS) released its monthly report on construction activity and building permits in the Kingdom for January.
The total number of building permits issued in the Kingdom reached 2,296, compared to 1,920 permits during the same period in 2025, marking an increase of 19.6%, the DoS figures revealed.
The total area of??licensed buildings reached 741,000 square meters, compared to 839,000 square meters for the same month in 2025, showing a decrease of 11.7%.
In terms of licensing purposes, the licensed area for residential purposes reached approximately 660,000 square meters (SM), compared to approximately 579,000 square meters during the same period in 2025, representing a 14% increase.
Meanwhile, the area of??buildings licensed for non-residential purposes reached approximately 81,000 square meters, compared to about 260,000 square meters during the same period in 2025, representing a 69% drop.
The area of??buildings licensed for residential purposes constituted 89% of the total area of??licensed buildings, while non-residential buildings accounted for 11%.
At the regional level, the Kingdom's central region accounted for 63.5% of the total area of??licensed buildings during the same month, reflecting a 6.2% decrease, compared to the same month in 2025.
The northern region accounted for 30.1%, showing a 54.4% increase, compared to the same period in 2025, while the southern region accounted for 6.4%, constituting a 50% decrease.
Regarding the distribution of licensed residential areas by governorate, Jerash recorded the highest percentage at 13.1%, with an area of??0.079 square meters per person.
Madaba recorded the lowest per capita share of newly licensed areas at 3.1%, with an area of??0.019 square meters per person.
The licensed area for new buildings and additions to existing structures constituted 47.8% of the total licensed building area during January, while the licensed area for existing buildings constituted 52.2%.
The total licensed area for new buildings and additions to existing structures reached approximately 354,000 square meters, compared to about 546,000 square meters during the same period in 2025, marking a decrease of 35.2%.
