Trump Praises ICE Deployment at Major US Airports
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump commended the dispatch of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to key airports across the country, describing the action as essential to maintain security and order, according to official statements.
"I sent ICE to the airports yesterday, and they have been so great," he said during a speech at a major Republican fundraising event.
The deployment of federal agents began on Monday as part of a wider budget standoff between the White House and congressional Democrats. Trump praised the agents’ performance, adding, "such an unbelievable job" at the airports.
He further warned that if necessary, additional forces, including the National Guard, could be sent. "If we have to, we're going to send in the National Guard if we need to," he said.
Democrats in Congress have been pushing for broad reforms within ICE before approving full funding for its parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security. This comes after federal agents fatally shot two protesters earlier this year amid heightened immigration enforcement efforts.
Trump criticized Democrats, claiming they “don’t want to pay” Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel. “You have to remember that the radical left Democrats need to get DHS back and open immediately,” he added.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer responded by stating that Democrats have consistently demanded ICE reforms. "If anyone is slowing down negotiation and hurting TSA workers, it's the Republican leadership who did not include one single reform," Schumer said on the Senate floor.
