Israel Refuses to Stop Lebanon War for Any Iran Peace Deal
(MENAFN) Israel will press ahead with its military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon regardless of any emerging ceasefire arrangement with Iran, an Israeli security source declared Wednesday evening, signaling a firm decoupling of the two fronts as Washington edges closer to a potential deal with Tehran.
The remarks, first reported by Hebrew-language outlet Walla, arrive amid mounting indications that the United States may announce a halt to hostilities with Iran within days.
The unnamed source was unequivocal about Israel's intent on the Lebanese front.
"The Israeli political leadership is determined to continue its campaign in Lebanon against Hezbollah until its objectives are achieved, regardless of any potential arrangements with the extremist regime in Tehran," the source said.
Israel Moves to Sever Iran-Hezbollah Ties
Central to Israel's stated strategy is the complete dismantling of the command and financial links binding Hezbollah to its principal backer in Tehran.
"Israel is working to completely sever the operational and political link between Iran and Hezbollah," the source said.
The source also warned against any framework that would permit continued rocket fire from Lebanon as a condition of broader negotiations — a formula the source suggested Iran is actively attempting to engineer.
"The Iranians are trying to create a formula that would allow continued rocket fire toward Israel if the Israeli army does not stop fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon," the source said, adding: "We will not allow this linkage."
Israel Wary of U.S. Pause in Fighting
Earlier Wednesday, Israel's public broadcaster cited an informed source as saying that Israel fears the US could temporarily halt fighting to allow negotiations with Iran — a prospect that appears to be driving the urgency behind Wednesday's pointed declarations.
The warnings reflect deepening anxiety in Tel Aviv over losing control of a conflict timeline now largely dictated from Washington.
