Iran Women’s Football Team Returns Home via Türkiye

(MENAFN) The delegation of the Iranian national women’s football team, which had taken part in the 2026 Asian Cup hosted in Australia, arrived on Tuesday at Istanbul Airport while en route back to their homeland.

Because Iran’s airspace was shut down following coordinated US-Israeli strikes on Feb. 28, the squad undertook a multi-leg journey, traveling from Australia to Malaysia, then onward to Oman, before ultimately reaching Türkiye.

After landing at Istanbul Airport, the delegation proceeded through passport control procedures under the supervision of police escorts.

The group, said to include several players who had earlier submitted asylum requests in Australia but later rescinded them, left the airport by road to continue the remainder of their trip back to Iran.
