Maria Sobolewska is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Manchester and works on the political integration and representation of ethnic minorities in Britain and in a comparative perspective, public perceptions of ethnicity, immigrants and integration. Maria's last book“Brexitland” with Prof Rob Ford won the 2022 WJM Mackenzie Prize for the best book published in political science from the Political Science Association.

She has been a PI on three ESRC grants: Ethnic Minority British Election Study pilot 2020; Ethnic minority voters in 2019: Brexitland, or business as usual? in 2019; and The 'Brexit Referendum' and Identity Politics in Britain: Social Cleavages, Party Competition and the Future of Immigration and Integration Policy in 2017. She also collaborated on Representative Audit of Britain candidate survey; Centre for the Dynamics of Ethnicity; Pathways: a seven-country study of the descriptive and substantive representation of immigrant-origin minorities; the 2010 Ethnic Minority British Election Survey, and many other projects.

Maria is also the 2021 Winner of the Political Science Association Joni Lovenduski Prize for outstanding professional achievement by a mid-career scholar.

Maria is available to consult the media and policy makers in areas of ethnic politics in Britain.
